Arizona Laws and Tint Percentages Gilbert, AZ
Arizona's automotive window tinting laws are designed to balance the needs of drivers who want to reduce heat and glare inside their vehicles with the safety concerns of law enforcement and emergency responders.
The state prohibits drivers from tinting the windshield except for a narrow strip at the top. This strip must not extend lower than the manufacturer's AS-1 line, which indicates the maximum allowable tint. It should be no more than 5 inches in height, or as specified by the manufacturer. This strip must not extend lower than the AS-1 line, which is a marking on the windshield that indicates the maximum allowable tint. Arizona law allows a minimum VLT of 33% for the front side windows. That means at least 33% of visible light must be able to pass through the window. The back side and rear windows can have a lower VLT, with no minimum requirement. If the back side and rear windows are tinted, Arizona law requires outside rearview mirrors on both sides of the vehicle. Arizona also prohibits specific colors and materials for window tinting. Specifically, the law prohibits using red, blue, or amber tint on any window. It also prohibits any material that is not transparent, such as stickers or decals, from being placed on the windshield or front side windows. It's important to note that these regulations apply to vehicles registered in Arizona, regardless of where they were originally purchased or where they are currently located.
